Following the Service of Remembrance at St Margaret of Antioch Church Members of the Church and the congregation, led by Dave Carey bearing the British Legion Standard, made their way to the War Memorial.

Wreaths, in memory of those villagers who have given their lives in the two World Wars and intervening, subsequent and current conflicts, were laid on behalf of the British Legion by George Rose Harper, formerly a serving member of The Princess of Wales Regiment, by Councillor Ian Armitt as the Borough Ward Member for Darenth and, on behalf of Darenth Parish Council, by the Chairman Councillor Iris Gutteridge. Wreaths were also laid by members of the Church and two Brownies from the Darenth Pack.

Everyone then made their way to the RAF Memorial Stone on Darenth Hill where a wreath was laid in memory of Flying Officer Nathaniel Barry, a South African whose life was lost when his Hurricane crashed in a nearby field.

Parish Chairman, Councillor Iris Gutteridge said 'The Service of Remembrance at St Margarets and the wreath laying are always poignant but even more so this year which marks the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings which led to the eventual victory in Europe the following year. We remember with thanks and grartitude all those who have paid the final sacrifice in conflicts past and present with special thoughts for those and the families of those from the Parish'.
