STATEMENT FROM DARTFORD, GRAVESHAM AND SWANLEY CLINICAL COMMISSIONING GROUP
11 December 2019
Update on Elmdene, Bennett Way, Bean and Joydens Wood Surgeries
Downs Way Medical Practice will now be caring for patients previously registered at Joydens Wood Medical Practice. Patients will be seen at Summerhouse Surgery in Bexley, a branch surgery that is just one mile from Joydens Wood Medical Practice.
Additionally, clinical services at Elmdene, Bennett Way and Bean Surgeries are currently being provided by other local clinicians.
This action has been taken to protect patient’s safety following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The CQC found the surgeries were not providing an acceptable level of service to patients and not meeting the required national standards.
Paula Wilkins, Chief Nurse at Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley Clinical Commissioning Group (DGS CCG), said: “We have been working very hard to minimise the disruption to patient care while we find a sustainable solution.
“We put extra capacity into the Improved Access hubs and NHS 111, brought in a clinical advisor to review patient records to identify high risk patients, as well as deploying CCG staff to help with administrative tasks.
“We have now moved to a situation where Joydens Wood Medical Practice patients have a permanent solution. Summerhouse Surgery is a much more suitable premises to provide clinical services from and is on a better bus route, enabling many patients to reach it more easily.
“Elmdene patients will be seen by doctors from neighbouring surgeries at Elmdene and Bennett Way surgeries and should ring their usual practice to book an appointment. We are in discussions to provide services to these patients on a more sustainable basis and will confirm these arrangements as soon as possible.”
Letters have been sent to all patients but they do not need to take any action. Although patients are entitled to register with another practice within their catchment area, there is no need to do so.
Paula Wilkins added: “We would like to thank the staff who have worked tirelessly during this process and of course the patients for their cooperation and understanding.”
